I wasn't going to have a blog today, until I realized what day it was. Today is August 14th, 2009. 20 years ago, was the second best day in the last century. Being the fan of video games that I am, only I and a select few other nerds would know about this, but 20 years ago, on this date, was the day that the SEGA Genesis was first marketed! It was the beginning of a gaming new era, and it was the debut of SEGA's new mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog.
Back then people said things like "Wow, that's so life like." and it sort of scares me a bit to see video games today. Next we are going to have games like in that movie, Gamer, When you are actually playing a person. I still think Nintendo is better than genesis though, that's why August 14th is the second best date and not the first.
I don't really have much else to say, for my day was fairly uneventful. You should check out the campaign ad from 20 years ago. It's pretty great.

- Why does the Blue Jolly Rancher, mean raspberry flavor? Well, one day at the factory there was a small group of senior kids. The kids were plotting the most ingenious way to get back at the world. You know, a way to be rebellious! So, what they did was they dressed in blue jogging suits, so as to be non-conspicuous, and they nonchalantly whistled there way into the nearest Jolly Rancher facility. It was surprising how easily they entered the facility. Even a 3 year old riding on a platypus could have done it. Anyway, the senior kids all dove into a vat of mysterious liquid that was being stirred around by a big robot spoon because they heard someone say "Wait a second.. It's red jogging suit week!". The after effect is a blue raspberry jolly rancher. Because the kids ruined so many of them they decided to keep them that way. The end.
